This was my daughter Katie's first 14-er. We had wanted to do Rainier, but once again weather conspired against us. Weather on Shasta, on the other hand, was perfect - first warm, sunny weekend of the year with excellent snow conditions - almost summer corn, except wierdly crusty down low. Once again, my off-piste ski skills showed up as lacking...
